Before You Arrive
Instructions Prior to Intravenous
Anesthesia
The following is an important checklist outlining the various
important preparations that each patient must make prior to
having an intravenous anesthetic. Each item on these lists is
important, and failing to comply with each point on these lists
could result in the cancellation of your appointment.
Do:
- Wear a short-sleeve shirt and loose-fitting, comfortable
clothing. (This is important enough that if you forget, we
will provide a short sleeve shirt for you for a $5 fee.)
- Bring a responsible adult escort to drive you home. For
patients under the age of 18, this must be a parent. Your
escort is expected to arrive with you and remain in the office
during the procedure (they should plan on staying on premises
for up to two hours for most procedures). Reminders
for Your Driver
- Take all of your prescribed medications (with a small sip
of water), unless specifically directed not to by the doctor.
- Remove all oral/facial piercings before your appointment.
- Call the office to reschedule your surgery if you have cold
or flu symptoms on the day of your procedure.
- Call the office with any questions you may have.
Dont:
- Eat or drink anything after midnight prior to appointment
— NOT EVEN WATER — unless specifically directed
by the doctor.
- Wear contact lenses or nylon stockings.
- Wear barrettes, scrunchies or other ties in
your hair.
- Wear nail polish.
- Wear jewelry (except for wedding/engagement rings, if desired)
or a watch.
- Wear slip-on or open-toe shoes.
- Apply lotions, creams, moisturizers or powders to your skin.
