Before Intravenous Anesthesia Sedation

Before having intravenous anesthesia, there are several things you are responsible for. Please refer to this checklist on the morning of your procedure to assure that the anesthesia runs as smoothly as possible. Failure to comply with every item on this list could result in the cancellation of your procedure!!

• Do Wear a short-sleeve shirt and loose-fitting, comfortable clothing.
• Do Bring a responsible adult escort to drive you home.
  • For patients under the age of 18, this must be a parent. Your escort is expected to arrive with you and remain in the office during the procedure (they should plan on staying on premises for up to two hours for most procedures). Please do NOT bring food or cell phones.
• Do Take all of your prescribed medications (with a small sip of water), unless specifically directed not to by the doctor.
• Do Remove all oral/facial piercings before your appointment.
• Do Call the office to reschedule your surgery if you have cold or flu symptoms on the day of your procedure.
• Do Call the office with any questions you may have.
• Do Avoid drinking grapefruit juice for two days prior to your procedure.
• Don’t Eat or drink anything after midnight prior to appointment – NOT EVEN WATER --unless specifically directed by the doctor.
• Don’t Wear contact lenses or nylon stockings.
• Don’t Wear barrettes, “scrunchies” or other ties in your hair.
• Don’t Wear nail polish.
• Don’t Wear jewelry (except for wedding/engagement rings, if desired) or a watch.
• Don’t Wear slip-on or open-toe shoes.
• Don’t Apply lotion, creams, moisturizer or powders to your skin.
